Transit Moments

A bicyclist is racing towards me as I cross the street, aiming, "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!" Barely missing, "I am the JUGGERNAUGHT!"
A man in his sixties, also crossing the street, "You're a punk!"
Already a half block away, the bicyclist - "Fuck you, old man!"

Mondays. Holiday or not (not for me), living off the grid sounds perfect... or should I live at sea?

An interesting article, pulled from the Silcon Valley News site:

"Honda says brain waves control robot"
YURI KAGEYAMA,Associated Press

TOKYO - In a step toward linking a person's thoughts to machines, Japanese automaker Honda said it has developed a technology that uses brain signals to control a robot's very simple moves.

In the future, the technology that Honda Motor Co. developed with ATR Computational Neuroscience Laboratories could be used to replace keyboards or cell phones, researchers said Wednesday. It also could have applications in helping people with spinal cord injuries, they said.

In a video demonstration in Tokyo, brain signals detected by a magnetic resonance imaging scanner were relayed to a robotic hand. A person in the MRI machine made a fist, spread his fingers and then made a V-sign. Several seconds later, a robotic hand mimicked the movements.

Is it too early for a holiday gift list? Let's see... I want a printer that can print on cylinders, topographical carpet, a submersible cliffside habitat, and maybe a tricycle...

While a Stonehenge is discovered in Brazil, Americans have yet to discover hypocrisy. The same steps Clinton made with China (how many years ago?), for which he received the venom of the right, are now made by Bush. There's nothing to be lost, really, since they're watching anyway, but when the "U.S. Asks China to Watch Military Exercise" you no longer hear those voices screaming, "You sold out our country!"

China unveils personal robot for homes

Beijing: China has unveiled a robot for the home that can provide services including logging on to the Internet. Liangliang, an argentous robot about 80 cm high, can walk and navigate through obstacles at ease and carry out human instructions. A company affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences developed it.

It is expected to provide services in education, entertainment and security and act as a personal assistant.

Earlier this week, China unveiled a robot that can inspect extra-high tension power transmission lines.

There are times I truly regret not going to art school, such as when I see the inspiring work at vivianite, but then my wallet sure thanks me.

An important issue, a name that makes me snicker. How ya gonna stop that evil media conglomerate? "I P Justice."

大変、けど名前にニコニコされます。いやな会社は止まり方がどう?"公平をほうにょうします."

Imagine my disappointment when it wasn't an article about boba. Apparently black pearls are valued more. People are just a little mixed up, that's all.

I haven't done the translation yet, but here's just an all around web tip - never use photos of dolls instead of humans in your company web page. But thanks for making me laugh.

More traction made for the plan to automate traffic. Someday we'll be able to use the cell phone in the car, can you imagine? We could even read the paper, eat breakfast, groom ourselves, or even practice harmonica. Imagine.
